A&F - One more reason…

Not that you actually needed another reason to hate Abercrombie…

To mohawk, or not to mohawk.

I got a haircut last night - the ol’ standard. I did however mention to my stylist that I wondered what I would look like with a mohawk. She (along with some help from her cohorts) almost convinced me to do it, but I don’t know …

What do you think?

Time Zones and Bananas

I just heard about Hugo Chavez’s demand that the Venezuela time zone be changed from GMT -4 to GMT -4.5.

CARACAS (Reuters) - President Hugo Chavez wants Venezuelan clocks turned back half an hour and he wants it done in record time — next Monday.

“I don’t care if they call me crazy, the new time will go ahead, let them call me whatever they want,” Chavez said on his weekly TV show. “I’m not to blame. I received a recommendation and said I liked the idea.”

The shift will allow children to wake up for school in daylight instead of before sunrise, Chavez said.

I also just saw the movie Bananas (for the first time as an adult) this weekend. This story reminded me of one of the scenes:

Esposito: From this day on, the official language of San Marcos will be Swedish. Silence! In addition to that, all citizens will be required to change their underwear every half-hour. Underwear will be worn on the outside so we can check. Furthermore, all children under 16 years old are now… 16 years old!

Fielding Mellish: What’s the Spanish word for straitjacket?

Curb My Enthusiasm

I’ve been ill the last few days. Some kind of sinus infection that has been passed around the RTP area it seems. Still not feeling well I’ve had the chance to watch about a season and a half of old Curb Your Enthusiasm episodes.

As a result I’ve come to the realization that I am, perhaps, MUCH more like Larry David (or at least the character he plays) than I had ever expected. I’ve gotten that comment off hand somewhere, but 15 or so back-to-back episodes have clinched it.

I’ve got season 3 on the way. Lets see if my neuroses are still founded after that :-)

Win some, lose some…

Most of the (very) few people who follow the inane and mostly random spew that is the content of this world wide weblog internets site also know that I was up for a new role at work recently.

(Recently is relative - it started about 8 weeks ago and comprised 8 interviews and more than a couple reschedulings…) *deep breath*

I’ve been so anxious about it because of the nature of the position, the product, that it would require relocation to a new site where there would be lots of face-to-face interaction, and the chance to move back to a far more urban area.

Unfortunately it didn’t work out.

I’m on the waining end of all of the emotion that gets stirred up when you anticipate something and it turns out other than you had expected, but overall it was a really useful experience to go through. I received some great feedback and took away some insight in a few areas. Since I’m not the only person effected by the process of trying to fill this job that’s all I’ll share here. You can always contact me directly for more details…

Its also got me thinking a bunch personally and professionally. More on that over time perhaps…

Thanks to everyone who has been keeping their fingers crossed and encouraging me through the whole process.
:-)

The Garbage Disposal

Last time I clogged up the garbage disposal it took me near 4 hours to sort out how to un-clog it including time spent on the interweb and using strategies that were really meant for another type of problem entirely.

This time it took only 40 minutes, including clean up of all of the chopped up carrot shavings that plugged up the disposal drain.

A few more times and I’ll have it down so fast that it will be less effort to remove the occasional clog than to be consciencious about what I throw down there.

Sweet.

“The most humilliating experience”

Larry King lobbed his usual round of softballs the other night, this time at Paris Hilton. Turns out that Michael Moore was bumped so she could appear

KING: An embarrassing — were you strip-searched? Do they do that in jail?
HILTON: Yes…
KING: What was that like?
HILTON: The most humiliating experience of my life. I never had to do that, you know, doing that in front of someone you don’t even know. It’s pretty embarrassing.

The most humiliating experience of her life. Really? She’s had multiple sex tapes and photos all over the internet and THIS is the most humiliating experience of her life?

iPhone Keyboard

Ughhh.. I was hating on the iPhone for a while, certain I’d never buy one. This was almost entirely based on how crappy I thought the keyboard would be. Looks like I might be wrong… We’ll have to wait and see what the users think.

I’m still not likely to give up my Blackberry any time soon, especially if the iPhone can’t get at my corporate email.
