New Years In New Orleans
This New Years I went to New Orleans to visit Jeremy and Dickey. I was in New Orleans only once before, and I vowed never to go back. It just wasn’t my kinda town. I got a better feeling there this time, but its still just a place that I’d visit, and probably only to see friends. One of the turn offs was the mold. Everything there is moldy, and not just because of the hurricane. I remember getting the same feeling when I was there a few years ago … walking into the airport and being accosted by the musty smell.
Aside from the must there is some charm about the area. Jeremy showed me his houses in Algiers Point and we took the ferry back. Later that night we hit Bourbon St (and left it quickly), then hit Decatur St. and then the river for midnight Fireworks:
On New Years Day Jeremy and I went down to the lower 9th ward and saw the destruction left from the Hurricane. It was awful, a ghost town. It looked like the water had just receded a couple of days ago. There didn’t appear to be anything done to make things better, other than removing all of the sheet rock.
